About Our Program
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a before-and-after school program that meets the needs of each child and family in a safe, healthy, environmentally friendly, stimulating and educational environment. Committed to the families we serve, we strive to give parents complete peace of mind, while being seen as a shining example of what a quality OSC program should be.
Our Goals
- To provide convenient (open from 6:30am to 6:00pm and within the school) and before-and-after school care services
- To create a setting that fosters social, cognitive, and physical development in children by:
o Involving the children in community based experiences
o Ensuring an eco-friendly environment
o Providing up to 3 balanced, nutritious, snacks daily
- To provide a unique, holistic-based curriculum that fosters eco-literacy, critical thinking, communication, emotional regulation, mindfulness, and much more.
Our Curriculum
Our holistic-based curriculum is unique to Stony Plain/Spruce Grove/Parkland County area child care and OSC programs.
Our curriculum's philosophy is that a healthy and sustainable early childhood curriculum should create the container for children to both acquire and practice thinking skills, communication skills, and tools for emotional regulation. It should nurture children’s innate sense of caring for, and about, nature and all its inhabitants, while supporting and modeling choices and decisions that are grounded in both an Earth and human-centered ethic that celebrates diversity and does not exploit or exclude. It is the combination of academics combined with mindfulness and our eco-conscious approach that makes our curriculum truly unique.
Our Schedule
Our program will run on all school days from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM, close for school hours then reopen at 2:35 PM until 6:00 PM. For Kindergarten children we can only accept them on their school days as we do not have access to our own space during regular school hours. For Kindergarten children attending school 2-3 days per week we can offer part-time spaces.
We will run a full-day program on PD days and school breaks (unless we are required by the school to close the program).
Program closures will be announced in advance. Our program will be CLOSED over the summer.
Our Fees
Full-time (5 days/week) - $550/month
We offer full-time spaces which includes both before and after school hours for children attending Muir Lake School in grades 1 to 6 (ages 5-12). If a family requires before or after school care only, the fees remain the same.
Part-time (Kinders only, 2-3 days/week) - $425
Part-time spaces, at this time, are only available to Kindergarten children registered to attend Muir Lake School 2-3 days/week.
Our fees include a morning snack (served between 6:30 and 7:45 am) and an afternoon snack (at 2:35 pm), and an evening snack (for our late-stayers, served around 5:30 pm). All snacks follow the Canada Food Guide. All food is prepared onsite with the health of the children in mind. We often encourage the children to aide us in food preparation. We prepare our food with reduced sugar, or the use of healthy alternatives, and low sodium when possible.
A one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $150 is required upon registration. There is also a subscription fee to our software program required. The subscription fee pays for access to our "app" that is used for communication with the program, invoicing, absences, medication forms, incident reports, medical information, and much more. This fee is paid to the software company, not the child care program.
Government Subsidy
For those who qualify, government subsidy is available. Those who qualify for full subsidy will receive up to $366 deducted from fees. More information on subsidy can be found here: https://www.alberta.ca/child-care-subsidy.aspx.
